Indonesia produces
media formats including music CD's, Video cds (VCD), DVD, and VHS tapes.
The standard video format there is PAL, as opposed to the NTSC format used
in the U.S. However, we have found that media recorded on CDs and DVDs
play on most commercial DVD players, though not necessarily on all computer
systems. We constantly search for new and unusual titles to add
to our growing catalogue and welcome suggestions and requests. Please realize
that media from some areas of Indonesia requires more time to
research and obtain. Our prices for specially ordered media is slightly
higher than our catalogued items, though the shipping is comparable. We
will quote a price before continuing with an order.

The performance arts
items featured in these pages only hints at the amazing plethora of arts
and crafts that Indonesian artisans produce. Sculpture, glass, furniture,
textiles and more flow from the centuries old, family run shops that line
village streets. Natural material such as rattan, coppper, wood,
stone, clay and leather form the creative mediums commonly used. Art
and antique markets in city centers are a great comparative resource when
buying or researching items. If not found there, specific pieces can be
made in just a short time, then carefully wrapped and shipped.
In the text box below, please describe in detail the
item, including any commonly used name or names, a maker name, location,
and attach any photos or drawings you might have.
Indonesia is home to numerous musical traditions and instrument families. Gamelan orchestras vary widely throughout the region and may include bamboo "gongs", anklung shakers, and "trompets". Furthermore, interest in and trade with other musical cultures have inspired artisans to produce instruments such as didgeridoos, djembe drums, "kalimbas" and rain sticks. Ordering instuments to add to an ensemble, such as a gamelan, requires a means of matching tuning and make, if important. For tuning, supplying a maker's name or description in Htz would be sufficiant. For our research purposes, please provide a description of the instrument, name or names, a maker, and any photos you might have.
We can order costumes and
accessories for many dances, for most any size. Headdresses,
arm bands, and fitted costume pieces can be made and delivered in
often less than two weeks.
Good dance masks generally take longer to fabricate to specifications. We have
found variation in quality amongst costumeers, and do price accordingly.
The differences in quality are found in fabric, ornaments, stitching, and
attention to detail. The better leather headdresses and arm bands
are thicker, intricately carved and carefully painted. Quality headdresses used
in Balinese dances or Wayang Wong
use real hair, sea shells, glass beads, metal and leather. We will try to offer a range of costume qualities in our search.
In the text box below, please describe the dance and costume pieces, and include photos if available. We will research the inquiry and offer our information.
